The Garfield Wheel

Garfield Wheel

Went on a bushwalk through the Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park, a major mining area during Australia’s gold rush period. The walk was a step back in time to see the old crushing plant (The Garfield Wheel), some of the gold mining shafts dug vertically through the shale rock to mine the gold veins and the Welsh Village.

Part of the track is also the Great Dividing Trail which the settlers used to transverse through the Great Dividing Range to the open plains (and settlements) beyond.
