Five Star Wannabe
As part of our first year anniversary, Sharon and I had a “dirty weekend” up in to Sydney, staying in the Five Star Sydney Intercontinental Hotel located in the old Treasury building next to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Circular Quay. On arrival in the Hotel, reception could not locate our bookings but lucky for me I had a hard copy of the reservation on me and after a few minutes waiting, reception found a booking (or was it a room) and we had our room up on the 17th floor, directly overlooking the Royal Botanic Gardens / Watson’s Bay.
Now I know what you are thinking, 17 floors seems pretty high up, except the hotel really did not have 16 floors between us and the ground, it seemed the Hotel designers had a few concerns in the art of sequential numbering, deciding to miss floors 3 to 9, and floors 11 to 15, I mean, why go to all the expense of actually having 35 floors when you can have half that number and number your top floor, as 35..
The room was a little disappointing, for five stars you would expect a little extra but honestly this room looked to me like your typical 4 star hotel room, in fact when we first got into the room it also had a few surprises with a dirty bathroom tap (with toothpaste on it), food left in the fridge and a very suspicious stain on the border of the bedspread which was a little off putting.
Still the view, promised on the website, really was breath taking, equipped with a quaint window seat so you could sit and admire the parade of water craft on Sydney’s harbour all day long..
More on this “Five Star Wannabe” Later on..
