Victorian Bush Fire Appeal 2009 – Please Help

bushfires2009

Many people have been affected by the recent bush fires which is now marked in history as Australia’s worst natural disaster.  I have hiked near Marysville and cannot believe the area is now ash. :(   If you can spare a few $ please give to the following:

- Australian Red Cross

- Salvation Army

Great Alpine Walk – Day Six

Day Six, last Day of walking holiday before our return back to Melbourne on Day 7 :( Today’s gentle walking was around the Harrietville / Bright Area which is well known for it’s gold mining back during the early part of the 1930’s. (You will see in the photos, plenty of left over mining activities, with plenty of sluices, tailings, mines and shafts.) Our walk also took us along the Oven River, which I have been told, during autumn is not to be missed due to all the colours of the autumn leaves. The Oven’s river looked inviting, maybe next time I will take a tube and float down the river like we saw a number of people doing..

Great Alpine Walk – Day Five

Day 5, up to Mt Feathertop we go! :) Mt Feathertop is Victoria’s second highest mountain only being beaten by Mt Bogong, which stands another 64 meters taller. :) The trip up to Feathertop has some spectacular view, at times it was hard to concentrate walking along Razorback Ridge with such spectacular views! After taking in the views at Mt Feathertop it was off to complete the three hour very long descent down to Harrietville .
